Surgical Sperm Retrieval

Surgical sperm retrieval is a procedure where sperm cells are collected directly from the testicles or epididymis (a tube that carries sperm) through a small surgical operation.

For males with infertility problems, Surgical Sperm Retrieval (SSR) is a technique that removes sperm straight from the testicles or epididymis. This method is used when sperm production is compromised or when there is a barrier impeding sperm release. Men who have had a vasectomy but want to become parents again, those with non-obstructive azoospermia, or those with obstructive azoospermia are often advised to undergo SSR.

SSR is generally safe, yet like any surgical operation, there are risks including bleeding or infection. The procedure can be carried out under local or total anesthesia. To aid in conception, the collected sperm might be utilized for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) .

Conventional IVF can not be done.

We offer cutting-edge surgical sperm retrieval treatments for males with either non-obstructive azoospermia (impaired sperm production) or obstructive azoospermia (blocked vas deferens). Through these techniques, our experts can remove viable sperm from testicular or epididymal tissue directly.

There are two primary surgical retrieval techniques:

TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) is an outpatient technique that involves a mild or local anesthetic and a small needle to remove sperm from the testes.

TESE, or testicular sperm extraction, is a procedure that is done under general anesthesia that entails making a tiny incision to access and remove tissues or tubes that store sperm from the testicles.

A more sophisticated version known as Micro-TESE precisely locates and extracts viable sperm from the most sperm-rich locations using modern microsurgery and microscopes.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles can utilize surgically recovered sperm for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Men who are infertile due to male factors can now become biological parents.

Our group of reproductive urologists has performed numerous delicate sperm retrieval operations before. We take great care to reduce any hazards or difficulties and optimize sperm output.
